Last week I finally got why people love the Long Trail

I always thought hiking the Long Trail in Vermont was overhyped compared to the AT. Then I did a 15 mile stretch near Killington last Thursday and the ridge views completely changed my mind. Anyone else have a route they dismissed until they actually walked it?

Totally agree with you. I had the same thing happen with the Pemi Loop in the Whites. Skipped it for years because everyone hyped it so much. Finally did it last fall and those ridge sections just blew me away. Feels stupid now that I waited so long.

Hiking the Presidential Traverse in New Hampshire did that for me. Spent years hearing people rave about it and thought it couldn't be that special, but the alpine zone views had me totally hooked. Now I get why everyone talks about it.

The Long Trail in Vermont was my surprise like that, those quiet miles through the Greens hit me just right.
