Unpopular opinion: I think bad science made Jurassic Park better and I'll die on this hill
I watched Jurassic Park again last week for the first time since I was like 12, and I could not stop noticing how the whole dinosaur cloning thing makes zero sense. In real life you can't just fill in frog DNA gaps and get a living T. rex, and the whole amber mosquito thing is basically impossible because DNA breaks down way too fast. But here's the thing, I think the bad science actually makes the movie more fun because it gives you this creepy feeling that the scientists in the movie were way too sure of themselves. I was texting my buddy Marcus during the T. rex scene and he said the bad science ruins it for him because he works in a lab and can't turn his brain off. So now I'm stuck between two sides, one where the nonsense adds to the horror of playing god, and one where it just makes smart people look dumb. Where do you all land on this one? Does the fake science in a movie like this make it better or does it pull you out of the story?
