Talked to my grandma about her starter and realized I've been overcomplicating things

I was visiting her last week and she asked how my sourdough was going. I started explaining my exact feeding schedule and temperature control, and she just smiled and said, 'Honey, I kept mine in a crock on the counter for forty years. Fed it when I remembered.' She baked with it every Sunday. It hit different because I've been stressing over perfecting my process, but hers was just about making bread for the family. I mean, her loaves were always great. Makes me wonder if I focus too much on the science and not enough on the feel. Anyone else get caught up in the details and forget the simple joy of it?

The science is what makes it fun for me though.

Ugh, honestly the science stuff just kills the vibe for me. It turns a fun hobby into feeling like homework, like I'm back in class memorizing facts. I just want to enjoy the thing without needing a textbook open next to me.

Hear me out though, what if you just skip the parts of the science that feel like homework? Like I used to get bogged down in the whole chemistry side of things but then I realized I could just learn one tiny thing at a time. Now I just pick one weird fact that sounds cool and look it up for like five minutes. It turned the whole thing into little fun surprises instead of a big test. Keeps the hobby feeling like a hobby, you know?
