My neighbor judged my sourdough starter and I still think about it

Back in March, my neighbor stopped by while I was feeding my starter and said "why do you keep that nasty jar of goo, just buy yeast like normal people." She meant it as a joke but it stuck with me. That starter was 6 months old at that point, and I'd made 30+ loaves with it without a single fail. Has anyone else had someone casually dismiss their baking thing and it just sat with you wrong?

And here I thought the real crime was keeping a six month old science experiment that actually works, while the rest of us are out here killing houseplants and calling it a hobby. Your neighbor clearly doesn't understand that a starter is basically a pet you can eat, and judging someone's pet is just bad manners. Bet she's the type to microwave fish at work and wonder why nobody eats lunch with her.
