My neighbor's comment about my sourdough starter made my week
I was walking my dog past Mrs. Henderson's house on Tuesday, and she stopped me to say my latest loaf looked 'just like the picture in her old cookbook'. She's lived here in Portland for 60 years and bakes a lot, so that meant everything. It took me 4 tries to get the scoring right and not have it deflate. Has anyone else had a simple compliment from an experienced baker totally make your day?

My third attempt at a baguette came out looking like a sad canoe. Honestly, when my aunt who ran a bakery for twenty years said it had 'good color', I felt like I'd won a trophy. Tbh I think we chase the fancy scores and perfect holes, but a real baker noticing the basics is the best feeling. Ngl I'd take that over a hundred likes on a bread picture any day. It just hits different coming from someone who actually knows the struggle.

Right? When Blake said it "hits different coming from someone who knows the struggle," I felt that. My first successful loaf looked so good I took a dozen pictures, then my own mom, who's baked forever, just said "well, it's not burnt this time.
