Sister told me my cake tasted like 'a dry sponge' at her birthday party

Last month I baked a triple-layer chocolate cake for my sister's 30th in Austin, spent 4 hours on it including making the frosting from scratch. She took one bite in front of 12 people and said it was like choking down a dry sponge, then laughed. Do I just stop baking for family events or does everyone else deal with this kind of brutal honesty?

Man, that's brutal! I mean, for real, four hours of your life and she hits you with the sponge comparison in front of the whole crowd? That's not honest feedback, that's a public execution with chocolate frosting. Honestly, she's lucky you didn't just take the cake back and chuck it in the trash right there. I'd say next time, show up with a store bought sheet cake and tell her it's from the heart, see how she likes that. Or you could just start a new tradition where you bring a bag of those dry Mexican wedding cookies and call it a day. Either way, she owes you a steak dinner for that stunt.

Man, that whole scene sounds rough, and I genuinely feel for you sitting there after all that work. Getting roasted in front of everyone like that just stings way worse than any dry cake ever could. You deserved better than that, friend.
