But is it actually a good croissant, or is it just trendy with a fancy name? I've paid that much for pastries before and felt ripped off when they weren't even flaky.

Right? It's wild how we're all just accepting the $8 pastry now like it's normal. I swear everything at the grocery store has some artisan markup now too, even the bread is a luxury item.
