Lost $60 trying to get a refund for my $12 banned bumper sticker on Etsy

So I bought this bumper sticker that said a certain phrase my old high school banned, and I thought it was funny. My mom saw it and freaked out, said the school district in our town actually sends warning letters about stuff like that now. I tried to get a refund from the seller, but their shop got shut down for selling "hate speech" after someone reported the listing. I spent $60 on two phone calls to a lawyer just to find out I can't sue a closed Etsy shop over twelve bucks. Has anyone actually won a refund fight like this, or am I just out the money?

Did the lawyer really charge you just to say a closed shop can't be sued?
