My boss banned the word "problem" in meetings, and I think the ban missed the point
Back in March our office manager at the Cedar Rapids branch sent out a memo saying we could not say the word "problem" anymore, so we had to say "challenge" or "chance to grow" instead. I pushed back in the team chat and said that was just hiding things, but a coworker pointed out that words like "issue" and "concern" have real meanings and swapping them out just makes people vague during crunch time. Does a word ban like this fix how people talk, or does it just teach everyone to dodge the real thing?
