My daughter's school put "intolerance" on their banned words list and it backfired in a way I did not expect
So back in October my 12 year old came home from her middle school in Reno and told me the school had banned a list of words from classroom discussion, and "intolerance" was one of them. I thought that was strange so I went to the next PTA meeting and asked about it, and the principal said the word made kids feel attacked. Here is the part I did not see coming. My daughter and her friends started using "that thing we cannot name" instead, and within two weeks even the teachers were saying it because it was shorter. By Thanksgiving the ban was quietly gone because the workaround was worse than the word. I am still not sure if banning words ever works or if kids just invent a new one every time.
