Grumpy old cashier made me count my change back to him last week
After he counted it back to me twice I finally asked him what was up and he said 'young people don't know how to verify money anymore' and then the customer behind me started clapping has anyone else had a random interaction that made you rethink how you handle cash at the register?

The whole "young people don't know how to verify money anymore" thing really sticks with me. I have a cousin who works at a grocery store and she said the same thing about people her age who just hand over cash without counting. She actually taught me to do this thing where I count the bills out loud when I get change. It feels a bit awkward but I've caught people shorting me by a dollar or two more than once. Kind of makes you wonder how many times we all just walk away without checking.

Used to roll my eyes at old guys counting change at the register, figured they were just being paranoid. Then last month a cashier at the hardware store tried to slip me a twenty instead of a fifty. Caught it because I was actually paying attention for once. Now I do the same thing your cousin taught you, hold the bills and count them out loud while I'm still standing there. Makes me wonder how many times I got shorted over the years and just walked away like an idiot.
