I had to pick between a high-yield savings account at an online bank or keeping my cash in my local credit union's regular savings. I went with the online bank for the 4.5% APY. It's been 6 months and the interest is great, but I miss the branch for some things.

Noticing how we all crave human connection even when the math is better without it.

Totally get that feeling of missing the branch. Maybe split the difference and keep a small amount at the credit union for the face-to-face stuff you need, like getting a cashier's check or a medallion signature? You still get most of that sweet online interest but don't have to fully give up the local help. Isn't it funny how we get used to the convenience of a person even when the numbers clearly say to go online?

Yeah, that split is probably the smart move. I mean, I still keep my old savings account open with like fifty bucks just so I can say hi to Barbara the teller. @jackson.jenny is right, the numbers make sense online but my brain is weirdly attached to the free lollipops.

Ha! The Barbara tax is totally worth it. I swear tellers hold the real power. They remember your name and suddenly you're not just a number in a spreadsheet. Free lollipops feel like a bribe to keep us loyal. Works on me every time.
