Just realized my 'free' checking account cost me $240 this year
I signed up for a no-fee checking account at a regional bank last January, but they hit me with a $12 monthly service charge if my balance dropped below $1,500. I lost track of my spending during the holidays and got dinged for 5 months straight before I noticed. Anyone else get burned by fine print fees on accounts that claim to be free?

Oh I feel your pain. I thought I was being clever with a "free" account until I realized my idea of "enough money in checking" is apparently very different from the bank's.

Wait, you're telling me the bank's definition of "enough money" and yours weren't even in the same ballpark? That's wild. They hit me with a $35 fee once because my checking dropped to $12.01. Like, who actually keeps a steady $1,500 buffer in there just for fun?
