My debit card got declined at a Kroger in Nashville over a $2.17 charge and I finally figured out why
Last Tuesday I tried to buy a Gatorade and a pack of gum at the Kroger on Gallatin Pike and my card got declined, which made no sense because I had $340 in checking. I called the number on the back and sat on hold for 22 minutes while the cashier just stared at me. Turns out my bank flags any charge under $5 at a grocery store as a possible test run by a thief, so they froze the card without a text or anything. I had to read them my last 3 transactions out loud in line to prove it was me. Has anyone else gotten hit by these low dollar fraud triggers, or is my bank just extra jumpy?
