My local coffee shop's new card minimum cost me a sale yesterday
I was in Portland grabbing a $3 coffee and they told me the new rule is a $5 minimum for card payments. I just walked out and went to the place across the street that didn't have that rule. Aren't these minimums against the card network rules, or did something change?

Yeah, that's everywhere now and it's so annoying. They're passing the credit card fees onto us while their prices already went up. I just won't go back to places that do it.

I just ask if they take cash and avoid the fee that way.

Is it just me or are these card minimums getting completely out of hand? @adams.faith I get what you're saying about asking for cash but half the time I forget to hit the ATM and then I'm stuck feeling like an idiot walking out of a shop with nothing. The card networks do technically say minimums aren't allowed but stores get away with it because nobody reports them or the fees are just too high for small places to handle. I bet that coffee shop lost way more than the card fee cost them when you walked out though. I did the same thing last week with a bagel place and my girlfriend still makes fun of me for being too cheap to pay an extra two bucks.
