Overheard a cashier at my grocery store say 'tap to pay is way faster than cash'

It got me thinking about how many people still carry cash for small purchases. Has anyone else noticed a big drop in customers using paper money lately?

In my experience, one thing nobody seems to talk about is how cash can actually be a budgeting tool for some people. I've seen friends who pull out a set amount each week and once it's gone, it's gone. That mental trick of watching your wallet get lighter works way better for them than swiping a card. Tap to pay is definitely faster at the register, no argument there. But for folks trying to stick to a strict spending limit, cash still has a real purpose that apps and cards can't really replace. Take that with a grain of salt though, it depends a lot on the person.

Debit cards let you see every single purchase in your banking app.
