Serious question, are contactless payments actually slower in busy stores?

I keep hearing people say tap to pay is faster than chip, but at my local grocery chain in Austin, the contactless reader takes 3 to 4 seconds to process while chip only takes 2. Every cashier I ask says it's their system, not the card. Anyone else notice this or am I just unlucky with that store's setup?

Those chip readers actually take longer than 3 seconds most of the time, trust me.

Man, last week I stood at a register for a full minute before it finally beeped.
