Shoutout to my credit union for not charging me a overdraft fee last month

I accidentally went $12 over my balance on a coffee run in Chicago last month and expected a $35 fee. My credit union actually declined the charge and didn't hit me with any penalty. Has anyone else had a bank surprise you by being cool about something like that?

My credit union in Portland did the same thing when I was $8 short on a gas purchase. It's funny how the smaller banks actually treat you like a person while the big ones just want to hit you with fees.

I used to think credit unions were basically the same as big banks, but that was before mine did the same thing. Actually changed my mind on the whole smaller bank thing.
