Shoutout to the cashier at a Piggly Wiggly in Alabama who saved me $40

I was in Mobile last month grabbing some snacks and totally spaced on my debit card being locked after a fraud alert. The lady at the register just looked at me and said honey you better pull up your banking app and hit confirm before they charge you a fee. She was right too because my bank had flagged a $2 charge from a gas station in Texas nobody told me about. That $40 overdraft protection fee would have been a total waste if she hadn't spoken up. Has anyone else had a random store clerk give better advice than your bank's customer service line?

Had a gas station clerk once who just let me take a whole case of water when my card wasn't working. Said "pay me next time." I came back the next day and he just shrugged and said "figured you were good for it." Little things like that just restore your faith in people honestly.
