The ATM at my local diner ate my paycheck deposit last Friday

I stopped at the random ATM inside Joe's Diner on 5th Street to deposit my biweekly check for about $1,200. The machine made this horrible grinding noise, then the screen went blue and rebooted. I stood there for 10 minutes before the manager came out and said their tech guy wasn't coming until Tuesday. Has anyone else had an ATM completely eat their money and had to wait days to sort it out?

Is it just me or has every automated system from customer service to checkout gotten noticeably worse in the last couple years? It feels like they're cutting corners everywhere and we're all just supposed to deal with it.
