Unpopular opinion: People are way too relaxed about using public Wi-Fi for banking apps.
Saw a friend check their balance at a coffee shop in Denver last week, no VPN or anything. That's how you get your info skimmed, plain and simple.

Honestly, modern banking apps use encryption, so public wifi isn't really the risk it used to be.

Remember when my neighbor's kid tried to hack our wifi just to get free Netflix.

That kid down the street tried the same thing with my router a few years back. I just logged into the admin panel and changed the default password to something longer than 12 characters, turned off WPS, and enabled MAC address filtering. Took me maybe ten minutes and the kid gave up after a week. Most consumer routers make it way too easy for people to guess the password because they never bother changing it from the sticker on the side. A little bit of setup saves a lot of headache down the road.
