Walked into a local credit union in Austin after years of big bank loyalty

Seeing their loan officer take 15 minutes to personally walk a retired teacher through a mortgage application made me realize how much I'd been paying for convenience, not service, and I'm genuinely wondering if anyone else has made the switch to a smaller institution and regretted it or not.

Hold on, did they really not mention that stuff or did you just have to dig for it in the fine print? I’ve seen some places say "no fees" but then they hit you with a small percentage on the back end. Seems like they’re probably hoping nobody asks too many questions.
