A VPN got me around Kenya's social media tax and now I get why they passed it
Paid $0.40 a day in tax on my data for two weeks in Nairobi before a guy at an internet cafe showed me a $3 VPN that skipped the whole thing, and it made me realize the tax was never about money, it was about making you think twice before posting, so has anyone else noticed these fees are really just a way to slow people down?
Forty cents a day just to use the internet? That is nuts, and it adds up fast when you are there for weeks. The part that really gets me is how a cheap VPN flipped it off like nothing, which kind of proves the tax was never about collecting money. Slowing people down is the whole point, and it is wild how well that works when folks can not afford to fight it.
