Compared two VPN services side by side after my country blocked Reddit

Ngl, I was using a free VPN for months and just put up with the slow speeds. Then last week the government here blocked Reddit completely, so I shelled out $40 for a paid one my buddy in IT recommended. The difference was insane - my connection barely dropped and I could actually load videos. Makes me wonder how much of the free speech fight is about paying for decent tools instead of relying on junk. Has anyone else noticed paid services work way better for getting around blocks?

So which free VPN were you using before?

My buddy Mike tried one of those free VPNs for a few months, thought it was fine until his bank account got drained by some sketchy charge from overseas. He had no idea the VPN was selling his data on the side. Took him weeks to get his money back and he switched to a paid one after that.
