Got kicked out of a French library for taking photos of a banned book list
Last month in Lyon, I visited the municipal library and found this old catalog of books that got banned in the 1800s. I started snapping pics on my phone for a research project, and a librarian came over and told me to stop. She said the list itself was still considered sensitive material under some outdated law. Has anyone else run into restrictions on historical documents like that?

Gently, that list thing might not be exactly banned, just restricted. Libraries are weird about fragile or historically sensitive documents, even if they're just old lists you found.

Libraries and their weird rules, right? I once got put on a "watch list" for breathing too close to an old map so I get the paranoia.

Oh, @sage_morgan75 is probably right about that, but still. Years ago I got a stern warning from a librarian just for resting my elbow near a stack of old newspapers. Felt like I'd committed a federal crime in there.
