Just realized how much tougher Australia's internet censorship is compared to the UK's filtering system

I looked into why a friend's blog got blocked in Australia but not in the UK, and it turns out the Australian eSafety Commissioner can force ISPs to block sites without a court order. Has anyone else run into weird differences between how two countries handle the same content?

Totally feel you on this one. It's honestly SCARY how much power the eSafety Commissioner has. My cousin runs a small gaming forum and got flagged for "harmful content" just because someone posted a link to a controversial article. No court, no warning, just blocked. Meanwhile the same stuff is totally fine on Reddit here in the UK. Makes you wonder who's REALLY deciding what you can see online.

And this tracks with every other corner of life too, doesn't it @reese86? The rules for big companies and little people have always been totally different. I see it with my neighbor who runs a cake business from home - she got shut down for a licensing technicality while the supermarket down the road sells factory cakes with zero oversight. Same energy as your cousin's forum getting flagged while Reddit keeps dodging. It's like the whole system is designed to protect the big guys and crush anyone who can't afford to fight back. Guess freedom only scales with your bank account.

Is it really that hard to believe that the same article can get a small forum blocked but stay up on Reddit? The big platforms have teams of lawyers and lobbyists to make sure they stay in the clear, but a little site gets squashed with no chance to argue. It's like the rules only apply to the little guys while the big fish swim right through.
