Lost $45 on a VPN that got banned in Turkey last month

I paid for a year subscription to PrivateVPN in January to access news sites while visiting family in Istanbul, but by March the government blocked all their servers and I couldn't connect anywhere. Support said they're working on it but no fix yet and now I'm stuck with a useless service. Has anyone else had a VPN provider just give up on a region like that?

PrivateVPN basically ghosted the whole region instead of actually trying to fix anything.

Lebanon here. They blocked all P2P traffic back in 2019 during the protests. PrivateVPN just threw their hands up. No warning, no refund, nothing. I lost a whole weekend of work because their killswitch failed too. That's the part that gets me - they didn't even try to get a local server or partner with a local ISP. Just checked out completely.
