Met a student from Singapore at a truck stop in Flagstaff who couldn't access our chat about banned books.
He asked to see my phone to read the thread, and his quiet 'I've never seen people just talk about this stuff' stuck with me... makes you realize what we take for granted.

Last year I met an exchange student who had the same problem. We ended up making a shared document online where I could paste in parts of conversations and articles he couldn't see. It was clunky but it worked. He said reading those raw discussions felt like a secret window opening. What do you do when you hit a digital wall like that?

That "secret window" feeling is so real. I've done something similar with my grandma who gets confused by social media. I'll screenshot funny comment threads and email them to her with little notes about why people are laughing. It turns a wall into a story she can follow at her own pace. It's more work, but seeing her get the joke is worth it.
