My VPN stopped working in Thailand until I switched to a different protocol

I was in Bangkok for 2 weeks last month trying to get around their strict streaming blocks, and my usual OpenVPN setup just got throttled instantly. Finally tried WireGuard on a whim and it jumped through without any lag. Anyone else hit a sudden block like that in Southeast Asia and find a fix that actually stuck?

Oh man, exact same thing happened to me in Vietnam. OpenVPN was crawling and then just died completely during peak hours. I switched to WireGuard too after a buddy recommended it and it was night and day different. It just cut right through whatever blocks my ISP was throwing at the usual ports. I also ended up changing my DNS to something outside the region which helped the speed even more. Sometimes the VPN provider itself just gets flagged and the protocol swap makes it look like a new connection to the network.

Did changing DNS make a big difference on its own too?
