PSA: My university in Texas blocked access to a climate research site last semester and now I triple check every source I use for class projects.
When a professor caught it and showed us the censorship notice from the school server, I realized how easy it is to rely on stuff that gets filtered without us knowing - has anyone else run into their own school blocking something they needed for a paper?

I mean, maybe it's just me but Texas has pretty strict laws about what state-funded schools can show these days. Three different Texas universities near me have filters on their networks, but most professors just give students a heads up before the semester starts so they know to use personal data or the library's off-campus databases.

That's rough, man. I feel for anyone having to deal with those filters at school. It sounds like the professors are trying to be helpful, but having to jump through hoops just to look up research materials is a hassle. I dunno how students in some other states handle it when it's even stricter. It just makes everything way more complicated than it needs to be lol.
