Talking to my aunt in Singapore changed my mind about their media laws
She said she actually prefers knowing the gov filters out 'harmful' stuff because it makes her feel safer. It hit different hearing it from family rather than some pundit online. Has anyone else had a conversation that made you see the other side of censorship?

That perspective from someone actually living there carries a lot of weight. It's easy to dismiss the idea when you're hearing it from a politician or a think tank, but a family member explaining how it works day to day makes it real. I've had a similar thing with a friend in Germany about their strict privacy laws. He said he never thinks about his data getting scraped or sold, and that level of calm changed how I saw it.

totally with you on this. my cousin lives in Japan and she told me about their cash culture, like how everyone still uses physical money for almost everything. i was skeptical at first but then she sent me a pic of her wallet with a coin organizer and it clicked. that level of trust in a non-digital system is wild when you think about how paranoid we are here with cards and apps.
