The librarian who pulled me aside and whispered about a hidden database of banned books
Has anyone else stumbled onto a hidden restriction list in their own town, or am I just lucky enough to have a librarian with a conscience?

Oh come on, this sounds a bit dramatic. Librarians don't usually have secret databases of banned books hidden in the back room. They have restricted collections sometimes, but it's usually for things like rare books or local history stuff that's fragile. If they really wanted you to see something, they'd just point you to the regular stacks or the online catalog.
