The time my favorite cookbook got pulled from shelves in Germany

Back in 2018 I went to Berlin for a work trip and stopped by a bookstore to grab a gift for my mom. She loves this older baking book by a Swedish author, full of traditional recipes. I found it on the shelf but the clerk told me it was being recalled that very day because of a new EU rule about food labeling photos. I stood there holding it while they put them all in a box. I asked if I could still buy it and they said no, store policy. Ended up ordering it online from a seller in the UK a month later, but it cost me double with shipping. Has anyone else run into a book getting banned or pulled over something that seemed more about paperwork than real harm?

And that's the thing, right? It's never really about the book or the cookies. It's about some checkbox in a Brussels office that has zero connection to whether a photo of a cinnamon bun is "misleading." I've seen the same thing with furniture, a lamp got pulled here because the cord wasn't long enough for a new rule that didn't even exist when it was designed. It's just paperwork with a price tag, and we're the ones who pay it.
