Vent: My cousin in Singapore said the government blocks WhatsApp group chats with more than 5 people and I brushed it off until she showed me the fine

I was telling her about our family group chat and she laughed saying she got a notice last year for organizing a book club of 6 people in a chat, and that hit different because I realized how easy it is here to just assume free speech is universal until you see the actual penalty numbers.

Yeah that's rough. It's one thing to hear about laws like that in the news, but another to see the actual fine amount. Makes you realize how much we take for granted here, just casually adding 12 family members to a chat without thinking twice. I had a buddy who moved to Dubai for work and he told me he can't even use WhatsApp calls there, had to switch to something else entirely. Really puts things in perspective when you see the numbers people have to pay just to talk to each other.

My neighbor got a parking ticket in Idaho for leaving her dog in the car for two minutes with the windows cracked.
