Had to choose between two banned books for my nephew's birthday gift

My nephew turned 13 last month and I was torn between giving him "The Absolutely True Diary" or "Fahrenheit 451," both banned in his school district in Austin. I picked the diary because it felt more personal for his age, and he texted me a week later saying it was the first book he actually finished, so I guess that worked out. Anyone else wrestle with which banned book to hand a young reader first?
