Hit 50 banned books on my shelf and it happened by accident
I was reorganizing my bookcase last weekend, mostly to find room for some new graphic novels, and I started counting the ones with those little 'banned in ____' stickers I put on the spine. Got to 50 without even trying. Five zero. I did not plan this. It started maybe 4 years ago when my high school in Phoenix pulled a book from the library over a single scene, and I got mad and bought a used copy online. Then I kept grabbing whatever got headlines, the usual ones like Maus and Gender Queer, but also some older ones like The Bluest Eye. I never counted until Saturday. It hit me that each one of those has a real story behind it, a town or a school board or a country that thought adults could not handle it. Maybe that is why I collect them now. Has anyone else accidentally built a collection this way, or do you have a specific number you are working toward? I want to know if I should stop at 50 or keep going. Feels weird to stop now.
