Looking at the 2022 banned books list from Texas, I was shocked to see 'The Diary of a Young Girl' by Anne Frank was on it.

I found this in a report from the American Library Association, which noted it was challenged for being 'sexually explicit' and 'too depressing' for students.

Seen this kind of thing happen at my local library meetings too. People get scared of hard history and want to hide it from kids. Calling Anne Frank's diary explicit just shows they didn't even read it, they just want to control the story. It feels like we're fighting the same old battles about who gets to decide what's true.

Remember when they said reading would rot our brains. Guess they meant reading about real human suffering might make us think too hard. My own diary from that age was way more explicit, and it was just about my weird neighbor's lawn gnomes.

@the_dakota yeah, I get where you're coming from but is it really that serious? Most people barely remember what they read in middle school anyway, and the ones who actually cared about Anne Frank's diary probably learned more from it than the folks trying to ban it. Feels like both sides are making a bigger deal out of this than the actual content warrants.
