Remember when they pulled 'The Giver' from our middle school library in 2005?

Honestly, reading it now as an adult, the whole 'protecting kids' thing feels backwards because the book's warning about sameness is exactly what we needed. Anyone else have a banned book hit different after a decade?

Ever notice the banners are often the ones who never read it?

@the_riley nailed it with "banners are often the ones who never read it." A buddy of mine actually ran a small library book club and this one lady showed up furious about a book she wanted banned. Turned out she had read the first paragraph, got mad, and never looked past page two. She argued for like twenty minutes about stuff that wasn't even in the story. My friend pulled up the actual text and showed her. She just packed up and left without saying a word. Still cracks me up thinking about it.

Oh, brilliant plan. Let's ban the book that warns about banning books.
