Unpopular opinion: My suitcase search over a forbidden book changed my travel habits.

Flying into a country known for book bans. Security found a title they restrict for political reasons. How do you pack for trips with censorship laws?

I used to just throw a couple paperbacks in my bag without a second thought. Getting pulled aside over a history book last year was a real wake-up call. Now I only travel with a wiped-clean e-reader or audiobooks on my phone for those places. It feels silly to have to do that, but losing a book or facing a fine isn't worth it.

Yep, learned that lesson the hard way too. All digital now.

That bit about getting pulled aside over a history book hits home. My cousin had a whole thing with a poetry book, of all things, because one poem referenced a political figure. It took an hour to sort out and they almost didn't let him board. Makes you realize how random it can be. Now I just load up my tablet with a bunch of different stuff and call it a day.
