Warning: wasted $60 on a 'banned authors' collection that turned out to be a scam
I bought this online bundle from a shady site claiming it had rare banned books from 5 countries, but when I downloaded the files they were just poorly scanned public domain stuff I could get for free. The site ghosted me when I asked for a refund, so total loss of 60 bucks and a few hours of my time. Has anyone else run into fake banned book sellers that promise rare content but deliver nothing?

Yeah @daniel552 that's exactly what happened. I used to think any site claiming to sell "banned" books was probably legit since governments actually do censor stuff in some places. But after getting burned twice now - once with a bundle that was just old H.P. Lovecraft stories they called "banned occult texts" - I totally changed my mind. These scammers just find public domain lists, give them edgy titles, and hope people don't check sources before buying.

That actually reminds me, I once bought a "rare first edition" of a sci-fi novel off some weird auction site and when it showed up it was just a printout someone had stapled together with a photocopied cover. Like, not even trying to hide it. These banned book scammers must have the same business model, just slap a scary title on something and pray people don't look too close.

Wait, they actually tried selling you scanned public domain stuff as "rare banned books"?
