A food blogger's comment about my recipe photos changed my whole setup
Last October I posted a chili recipe on my small blog and someone commented that my photos looked 'flat and washed out.' I was annoyed at first, then I noticed they were right. I moved my camera from the kitchen counter to a spot right by the north window in my dining room and started shooting at noon instead of 7pm. The difference was huge, better color and depth with zero extra gear. Has anyone else gotten a critique that stung but ended up being the best advice you ever took?

Did you ever try fixing the white balance instead of moving to a window?

That comment stung me too, a while back. Someone told me my bread pics looked like a ghost took them. I was mad for a whole day, then realized they were spot on. Moved my setup to the east side of the house and it changed everything. Better light makes all the difference, way more than fiddling with settings. Sometimes a blunt stranger sees what you can't. Good on you for taking it the right way.
