Got my 3-day Facebook ban for a comment about a pothole on my street in Tulsa, so I started mailing actual letters to the city
Last month I commented on a local news post about a pothole on my street in Tulsa that had been there since winter. I said something like, 'maybe if we all stopped paying taxes for a week they would fix it.' Boom, 3 day ban for 'inciting'. I was mad at first, then I got creative. I printed out my comment, added a photo of the pothole with a ruler showing it was 4 inches deep, and mailed it to the city public works office. Two weeks later I got a letter back saying they would send a crew. They actually did it last Tuesday. So now I have a folder of letters I send whenever I get banned from something. It feels stupid but it works. Anyone else tried going old school with paper when the internet shuts you up?
Man, I gotta push back on this one. The pothole got fixed, sure, but did the letter actually do it, or did you just get lucky with the timing? Cities get complaints about potholes all day long and most of them sit there for months, so one guy mailing a printout probably is not what moved the needle. Plus, bragging about a system where you mail letters every time you get banned kind of proves their point, right? You are basically saying the ban worked because now you take your stuff off their platform and nobody sees it. And the tax comment was a bad move no matter how mad you were, because that reads like you are telling people to stop paying, which is exactly the kind of thing that gets flagged. If the real goal is getting stuff fixed, a calm email or a 311 ticket would do the same thing without the drama, and you would not need a whole folder of letters.
