Just realized my comment about a public art project got me a permanent ban from a city subreddit after a 48-hour argument with a mod.
It took me over a year and setting up my own blog to feel like I could actually discuss civic issues again without that shadow hanging over the conversation, so has anyone else had to rebuild from a platform ban like that?

Getting banned from a subreddit feels like getting fired from a job you hate but still cried about in the shower, it's ridiculous but real. I spent way too long muttering "well actually" to myself in the grocery store after my ban. At least now when I see that mod's username I just hiss a little under my breath.

Honestly, it sounds like you're making a city subreddit way too important. It's just one online forum run by volunteers, not a real civic space. Getting banned from a place like that shouldn't stop you from talking about local issues for a year. You can find other groups or just talk to people in real life. Why did you let a random mod have that much power over you?

That "shadow hanging over the conversation" feeling is so real, I had the same thing after a ban.
