Noticed my Instagram reach dropped 80% after I posted about Gaza in October

I used to get around 2,000 views per post on my art account, then I shared a simple ceasefire graphic and the next day my reach went to 400. This kept up for weeks even when I went back to just posting paintings. Has anyone else seen their engagement tank after sharing a political opinion on a non-political page?

That "dropped 80%" part caught my attention because mine dropped by about the same number. I posted one thing about Sudan in June on my photography page and my reach went from maybe 1,500 average to under 200 for months. Even now it only creeps up to about 600 on a good day. It feels like the algorithm shadowbans you for stepping out of whatever box they put you in, and it takes forever to crawl back out.

Wait, did you say your page was photography based? Because that's wild, mine is too mostly just landscapes and old barns and stuff. But here's the thing, I remember last year I posted a picture of a stray cat that I found hiding under a truck during a heatwave. Just a regular cat, nothing political, I was just trying to find it a home. And boom, next day my reach dropped from 2,000 to like 300. @piper_dixon45, I think the algorithm just gets confused when you post anything that doesn't fit its perfect little mold. It's like you have to prove yourself all over again. I posted pictures of my dog for three weeks straight just to get back up to normal numbers.
