One gentle DM from a stranger made me rethink my whole ban story

I got booted from a gardening forum three years ago for calling a mod's weed advice dangerous. I spent months telling anyone who would listen that I was right and they were wrong. Then last January, someone messaged me on a different site, saying they tried my method after seeing my old posts copied somewhere. They told me their tomato plants recovered and thanked me by name, which I never used publicly. That one person, out of nowhere, made me realize my anger was never about helping others, it was about winning an argument. Now I focus on sharing what I know in places where people actually ask, not where I feel forced to fight. Has anyone else had a stranger quietly validate you after a ban, and did it soften your stance?

That hits hard because it takes away the story you built in your own head. Getting that kind of quiet proof makes you see the fight was never about the plants or the people, it was about your own pride. Most of us don't get that lucky break where a stranger shows up and hands us a mirror. It usually takes years of stewing or someone close to you calling you out. Good on you for actually taking it in and changing how you share stuff. Now the question is, do you still feel tempted to go back and prove yourself to that old forum?

Honestly, that "quiet proof" thing is rare, most people just double down.
