That time a neighborhood Facebook group booted me for defending a guy with a leaf blower
Last May in Austin, I got banned from the 'Sunset Valley Neighbors' group for saying the guy who uses his leaf blower at 7am on Saturdays has more right to his own yard than a retiree who moved next to a highway and now complains about noise, and honestly it was the admin's snotty reply about 'community respect' that made me realize I didn't want to be in a group where disagreeing with the vibe was treated like vandalism, so now I just post on my own page and ask, has anyone else been kicked out for defending a mundane habit that everyone secretly does?
Man that admin reply would've sent me too, "community respect" is such a weird way to say "agree with us or leave." But here's what I wanna know, did the leaf blower guy even know you went to bat for him? Cause in my experience these neighborhood group fights are wild because half the people in them don't even live on the same street, they just like having something to be mad about. And 7am on a Saturday is early for sure, but the dude moved next to a highway, that's a choice he made with his own two feet. So my real question is, when they banned you, did anyone in that group message you privately to say they agreed but were too scared to post it? That's the part that always gets me about these groups.
