TIL that 1 in 4 moderators admit to banning users just because they disagreed with them, not for breaking rules
I was digging through a study from the Knight Foundation and found this stat that totally blew my mind. They surveyed like 1,200 mods across different platforms and 24% straight up said they've handed out bans for opinions they didn't like, not actual violations. That means every time you get silenced, there's a solid chance it's not about the rules at all. Has anyone else run into this where you got banned but the reason felt totally made up?

24 percent? That's one in four. I would have guessed lower, maybe ten percent. That's kind of alarming if you think about it.

One in four" feels way too high, where's that stat from?
