Unpopular opinion: I got banned from a local gardening group for saying raised beds are better than in-ground plots.

I posted a photo of my 6 month old raised bed yield next to my old in-ground plot, and the mod said it was 'divisive'. Anyone else get the boot for a simple side-by-side comparison?

It's the same in a lot of hobby spaces now. People would rather be right than learn something new, even about simple stuff.

Honestly used to think those groups were for sharing tips, but seeing stuff like this and @craig.tyler's story changed my mind. They just want everyone to agree, not actually figure out what works best. My clay soil is awful, so raised beds saved my garden, but I guess that's a hot take now. It's wild how defensive people get over dirt.

Got the same treatment from a seed swap group last year. Posted a simple photo showing less slug damage in my raised beds. Apparently that counted as "elitist." Found a smaller, more laid back group focused on practical results. Just stopped posting comparisons in the big groups, it's not worth the hassle. They want an echo chamber, not actual gardening talk.
