Called out a fake review on a hiking forum, got perma-banned within 20 minutes

I posted proof showing a guy's gear review photos were stolen from a 2018 Backpacker magazine article, and the mods deleted my comment and banned me for 'harassment.' Turns out the forum owner was getting paid kickbacks from the gear company being shilled. Has anyone else run into fake reviews protected by forum staff?

I saw a YouTube video where a guy broke down how some forums take cash to keep fake reviews up.

Last time I got paid for a review was when some forum offered me twenty bucks to say their toaster didn't burn my bagel. I took the cash and wrote "it toasted fine" and still felt guilty about it for a week. Probably why nobody offers me that stuff anymore, they know I'll crack under the moral pressure of free breakfast.
