Got banned from 2 subreddits last month for comments I thought were fine, and I finally figured out why
So about 3 weeks ago I got banned from a home brewing forum for a comment about bottle carbonation, and then the same thing happened on a trucking board over a reply about hours of service rules. I kept telling myself it was just mods on a power trip, but then I went back and actually reread both comments. In the brewing one I had typed "anyone who kegs is just scared of waiting" and in the other I called a guy a "glorified steering wheel holder" for asking a basic logbook question. I always thought getting banned meant you said something true that people could not handle, but nope, I was just being a jerk and dressing it up as an opinion. Has anyone else gone back and read their own ban message and realized the mod was actually right?
Used to roll my eyes at ban stories too, figured it was always thin skinned mods. Then I got the boot from a fishing group for telling a guy his knot was "amateur hour garbage" when he was just asking for help. Reread it a week later and cringed hard, dude was brand new and I jumped on him for no reason. The mod message was short but fair, and it made me realize being blunt is not the same as being right.
